Frequently Asked Questions

How do you calculate exact age from date of birth?

Subtract the birth date from the current date. First find the number of complete years by checking whether the birthday has occurred yet in the current year. Then count the remaining months and days. For example, if someone was born on March 15, 1990, and today is May 24, 2025, they are 35 years, 2 months, and 9 days old.

How many days old am I?

Count the total number of days from your birth date to today. A quick estimate: multiply your age in years by 365 and add roughly 91 days per quarter of a year since your last birthday. The exact number accounts for leap years, which add one extra day every four years. Our calculator handles this automatically.

Does age calculation account for leap years?

Yes. Leap years add one extra day to February every four years. When calculating total days lived, every leap year you have lived through adds an extra day. Our calculator uses JavaScript Date objects, which handle leap year arithmetic correctly.

What happens if I was born on February 29?

People born on February 29 only have a true calendar birthday every four years. In non-leap years, this calculator treats March 1 as the equivalent birthday for age calculation, which is the most widely used convention.

Can I calculate the age of someone who has already passed away?

Yes. Use the "Age As Of" field and enter the date of death. The calculator will show the exact age at that specific date, including years, months, and total days lived.

How accurate is an online age calculator?

Accurate to the day, provided you enter the correct dates. Results depend entirely on the dates entered. Timezone differences do not affect the calculation because we compare calendar dates rather than timestamps.

Can I use this calculator for pet ages?

Yes, you can find the exact chronological age of a pet in years, months, and days from its birth date. Note that this calculator gives chronological age, not the biological equivalent age (e.g., "dog years").

What is the oldest verified human age?

The oldest verified human was Jeanne Calment of France, who lived to 122 years and 164 days (1875–1997). Ages above 115 are exceptionally rare. Our calculator can display any age, including very large ones.

How is age calculated when the birthday has not yet occurred this year?

If today is before your birthday in the current calendar year, your age is the current year minus your birth year, minus one. For example, if you were born in October 1990 and today is May 2025, you are 34 years old, not 35, because October has not arrived yet.

What is the difference between age in years and age in months?

Age in years counts complete 12-month cycles since birth. Age in months counts every calendar month that has fully passed. A person who is 2 years and 5 months old is 29 months old. Months are often used by doctors to track infant and toddler development.
